Heads High, Kill Them With The No; Vs, Serve And Protect.

Mr Vegas
Some say it was bound to happen, Entertainers and Artists stepping in to endorse the Political parties now caught up in the fight for political power. And when Finance Minister, Fayval Williams, took to the Parliament to thank Mr Vegas for his understanding of her political faux pas with her ProBox comment, keen observers said it would only be a matter of days before they would expect the entertainer to declare his support for the incumbent JLP Government. That he donned the Party’s Colours and Election paraphernalia and mounted the political stage in Montego Bay to declare his support was of little import, and practically no real surprise, as Vegas, is pretty much a has-been, as it’s been quite some time since he had a current chart topper. Some commentators quipped that it appeared that he would be using the impending campaign to look a-forward, to try and resuscitate his comatose career. Vegas has been somewhat of a downgraded comedic e-entertainer, regarded more as publicity-whore, in recent times, following his frequent episodes of breaking down, or over-sharing on Social media, due to what was perceived as his domestic instability, instead of the influencer he sees himself as. If the JLP was expecting him to move the Election Meter in their favour, they will be sorely disappointed, as he is past his prime as an entertainer and his endorsement of this Administration, widely regarded as the most corrupt in the nations’ history, might just see the electorate holding their heads high, and killing them with the No!
Queen Ifrica

And not to be outdone, following on the heels of the Vegas endorsement, Queen Ifrica took to Social media to exhort her fans and voters in general, especially those who regard themselves as “Die-Hards”, to not return this Government to power.

Now Queen Ifreca, makes a more relevant messenger than Vegas, as she is not only au currant but she has developed a bigger platform over the years, as not just an Entertainer but expanded her appeal as a Human Rights Activist, who has used her platform to address societal ills, unlike Vegas who has been a selfcentred Social Media commentator. Unlike Vegas, Queen Ifrica, did not adorn herself with the Colours or Paraphrenalia of the PNP, hers was simple but poignant message, exhorting potential voters to be cognisant of the choices they are faced with, and in a Nationalistic mode, ask that People Vote with their eyes on the future, being aware of the history of the incumbent.

Her message, simple and direct, makes for a far more cogent and effective endorsement and potential vote-puller than that of Vegas. As she has maintained her dignity by remaining outside of the political loop, and an advocate of culturally uplifting lyrics, whilst Vegas seems to have decided to take the side of the brigands, by pandering.

Vegas messaging is off as it seeks to transport the Voter to an era and generation alien to young voters, instead of touting the supposed successes of the Holness’s administration over last 9 years, as the basis to promote a third term, whilst the Fire Mummah, is juxtaposing the record of the Prime Minister and his party, as the raison d’etre for not giving the JLP another term.

And just when it was all beginning to look dull, as another beef between Entertainers, A picture appeared in the Social Media Space, of Sprint Legend and Icon, Usain Bolt, in an Orange Sweat-Suit, prompting some to comment that the legend was sending a subliminal message to his supporters, fans and admirers that he is with the Orange Team and not the Green one…

Its early days yet, and as the Election draws nigh, commentators are predicting that the Country can expect more Entertainers and Sporting Stars to join the fray and make for a much more spirited campaign…
